Detailed Section-Wise Syllabus Breakdown

1. General Knowledge & UP Special GK (100 Marks in Prelims)

This is the most expansive section of the examination. The questions focus on:

  • Uttar Pradesh Special GK: UP Census 2011 demographics, district-wise soil & agriculture, historical monuments, folk arts & fairs (Nautanki, Raslila, Charkula dance), One District One Product (ODOP) initiative, major expressways and industrial corridors.
  • Indian Polity & Constitution: Fundamental Rights & Duties, Panchayati Raj amendments (73rd & 74th), Governor and Chief Minister constitutional powers, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG), and Finance Commission.
  • Modern Indian History: National movement from 1857 to 1947, revolutionary leaders, congress sessions, and socio-religious reform movements.
  • Current Affairs: 8 to 10 questions covering major national sports events, state government budget allocations, and key bilateral indices.

2. General Science & Arithmetic (100 Marks in Prelims)

  • General Science (25-30 Qs): Everyday physics (Optics, Sound, Units & Dimensions), basic chemistry (Acids, Bases, Salts, Metals and Non-metals, Common chemical names), and biological systems (Human digestive & circulatory systems, deficiency diseases, vitamins, vaccines, and plant physiology).
  • Arithmetic (20-25 Qs): Number systems, LCM & HCF, percentages, profit & loss, ratio and proportion, simple and compound interest, averages, time & work, and elementary geometry / 2D mensuration.

3. General Hindi (50 Marks in Prelims)

General Hindi in Lower PCS tests functional command over official state language rules:

  • Sandhi (संधि एवं विच्छेद), Samas (समास), Vilom (विलोम शब्द), Paryayvachi (पर्यायवाची शब्द).
  • Tatsam and Tadbhav (तत्सम एवं तद्भव शब्द), Idioms and Proverbs (मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियां).
  • Official and semi-official letter writing concepts (शासकीय एवं अर्धशासकीय पत्र शब्दावली).
  • Sentence correction, spelling error detection, and unseen prose comprehension.

High-Yield Strategy to Clear Lower PCS Cutoff

  1. Prioritize Hindi & Reasoning Accuracy: These two sections account for 100 marks out of 300 in Prelims. Because the questions are rule-based, well-prepared candidates routinely score 45+/50 in Hindi and 42+/50 in Reasoning, giving them an enormous cushion for General Knowledge.
  2. Revise UP Specific Facts Methodically: Don’t read random GK trivia. Study the official UP government statistical handbook for crop production rankings, thermal power plants, river canal networks (Sharda, Ken-Betwa link), and bird sanctuaries.
  3. Practice Timed Objective Sets: With 150 questions in just 120 minutes, you have less than 48 seconds per question. Attempting regular timed mock tests on FundaPrep ensures you never leave easy Hindi or Reasoning questions unattempted at the end of the paper.
